well, since web-development is a fast growing and changing science:
do you mean a certificate for basic xhtml coding or the latest technologies such as ajax and stuff?

well, max, i guess that the nature of this certificate would simply require it to be updated frequently and that each participant would have to take this test on a yearly base. no problem here. and i'm sure that customers would recognise the value of such a test after some time. but you are certainly right in that there are problems to solve before or while planning such a thing.

Hell no! Not another useless certification that proves nothing. Let your accomplished projects speak for you.

In a field that changes as much as web design such a certification is not feasible (because it would need some refreshment every 4 months or so).

What makes you think the same clients that do not mind paying big corporations lots of money for HTML4 pages will understand the certification?

Right you are! That would be the chance for every free developer or student to get good money for good work.

And I totally agree. I was always looking for an "exam" that proves my ability to do web-development. Whether you learned it or not. No one would ask a famous painter if he studied art, if he does a good job it doesn't matter why he does. But he should be able to prove by certification!
